This origami Easter basket with lilies is PERFECT to make for your Easter holiday. If your kids need something to do with their hands, they can make these and give them away! They are so fun to make and when you finish, they are so pretty! This is an intermediate origami project. Also check out Crafts for Kids: Origami Heart Rings, and Easy Origami Ornaments.
Supplies:
One 8 1/2″ X 11″ paper-preferably duo (two-colored)
Scissors
Five squares of paper-preferably duo (two-colored), the squares can be 4 1/2″-7″. Try to have two white and three colored.
Clear tape
Brown crinkle paper (Easter basket stuffing)- or paper from your shredder
Pencil or pen
Note: I frugally used paper from my tear-off calendar, and from a used up sticker book. Don’t buy special paper until you made sure that there is no paper you can use at home. You could even use scrapbooking paper (with a parent’s permission).
How to Make Your Handle of the Origami Easter Basket:
Cut your larger paper into a 8 1/2 X 8 1/2 square. SAVE THE EXTRA STRIP OF PAPER! If you are using duo paper, make sure you make the square main color up.

This is the handle, made with the extra strip you cut off to form your square. Use this extra strip with the main color down. If you are using duo paper, you might even use the opposite color than the basket. (If it’s blue on one side and green on the other, blue is for one, green could be the other.) Place the short sides horizontal. Fold the strip in half with the long sides touching then unfold. Fold the raw edges to meet the middle crease. Now, fold the edges inward. Tape the ends and the middle to keep the handle together.
Making the Basket For Origami Easter Basket:
Make the large square into a preliminary base– make sure to use this pdf as your model. It should now look like this on top:

Move the preliminary base so that the ends together are down. Flatten the base down. Fold the top point to meet the bottom. .

Now, fold the point up the the middle (horizontal) fold. Unfold, then make the point meet the crease just made.

Double up the lower edge to make a fairly thick layer. Repeat this on the other side. There are two main flaps on either side. Fold the right one over the left. Turn over and repeat.

Fold the new blank sides almost like the other sides. But before you double it up for the last time, stick the strip of paper into the fold.

Double up the fold two more times. Repeat on the other side.

Fold the two outward corners inward so that the corner farthest from the handle touch the middle crease.

Now, fold the corners to meet the outside line. Once more, repeat on the other side.

Fold down the strip of paper. Once again, repeat on the other side.

Open up the basket.

OPTIONAL: Tape the corners to the basket to make it retain its shape.

VOILA! Your Origami Easter Basket is done!
How to make your Lilies:
Make a preliminary base.

Get your finger into one of the ‘flaps’. Press down on the flap.

Grab the upper layer and make the raw edges meet the middle crease. Unfold.

Get your finger into it again and pinch it. Keep pinching it up and then there should a diamond shape.

Fold the little flap down as much as it can go comfortably. Repeat on all sides.

Switch the diamond so that there are blank sides on both sides.

Fold the edges inward to meet the middle crease. Get a small piece of tape to keep it together. Make all the sides look the same.

Carefully, get a petal and curl it around the pencil.

Curl all the petals in the same way. Make four more lilies.
How to Assemble your Origami Easter Basket with Lilies:

Place shredded paper into the basket. Fill it 1/2-1/3 of the way full. Arrange the lilies in the basket.

The way to make it pretty is putting colored lilies in a diagonal line corner to corner, and the white lilies in the others. Have fun making and giving away your baskets!!!!!
Ways to make your baskets:
